Fit For You Bars

Ingredients

1 cup GRAIN: old fashioned rolled oats, quick oats, crisp brown rice cereal or granola

6 tbsp. SWEETENER: honey, agave, brown rice syrup or pure maple syrup

½ cup NUT BUTTER: natural peanut butter, sunflower nut butter, almond butter or cashew butter

½ cup SEEDS or WHEAT PRODUCT: ground flax seed, whole sesame seeds, unprocessed wheat bran, wheat germ, pumpkin seeds or ¼ cup chia seeds

½ cup POWDERED PROTEIN: vanilla whey protein powder or nonfat dry milk

½ cup NUTS or CHIPS: chopped walnuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds or dark chocolate chips

½ cup DRIED FRUIT: raisins, dried cherries, dried cranberries, dried goji berries, chopped dried apricots, chopped dates, chopped prunes or chopped figs


Directions

  1. Choose one ingredient from each category (i.e. grain, sweetener, nut butter, etc.).

  2. Using an electric mixer or food processor, mix together chosen ingredients. Coat an 8 x 8-inch pan with cooking spray. Evenly press ingredients into the pan. Refrigerate to set. Cut into 12 bars.

Example of Fit-For-You Combination:

1 cup old fashioned rolled oats | 6 tbsp. agave

½ cup natural peanut butter

½ cup ground flax seed | ½ cup nonfat dry milk

¼ cup chopped walnuts

¼ cup dark chocolate chips | ½ cup dried cherries


Suggestion: Freeze bars for later use by placing individually servings into freezer-safe snack-sized Ziploc® bags. Freeze for up to 3 months.

Makes 12 Servings:

Per Serving (1 bar): 231 calories, 11g fat, 2g sat. fat, 75mg sodium, 27g carbs, 3g fiber, 7g protein
